Case study: Mentable

A vision, built into a product.

Mentable came to us as a pre-revenue SaaS startup with a clear idea and no product yet. We turned that idea into a mobile app that traders open before a trade, after it, and when the session closes.

Where they started
A pre-revenue SaaS startup with a vision
What we built
A mobile app for trading discipline

The shift

From a vision with no product, to an app a trader can open today.

Before

A vision

no product and no revenue yet

Now

A working app

opened before a trade, after it, and when the session closes

The brief

A startup with a vision and nothing to put in a trader’s hands.

Mentable wanted traders to look at the decision behind each trade, not only its result. It had no revenue and no product, so the first job was to turn the idea into something a trader could open on a phone and use every day.

The goal

Turn the vision into a working product: intent recorded before the outcome, a clear read on where the process leaks, and a desk that closes when the session does.

Our approach

How we turned the idea into a product.

  1. Close the desk when the session ends.

After the session the desk locks. There is no new exposure until the next one, so the app steers the trader to review the evidence instead.

  2. Record intent before the outcome.

The trader logs the asset, the direction and the planned reward to risk before the outcome can distort their memory of why they took the trade.

  3. Show the edge and the leaks.

From the logged trades, the app shows where the trader makes money and where they give it back, and whether their own rules held.

  4. Answer from the evidence.

An analyst reads the logged trades and answers questions against the trader’s own rules, at a depth the trader chooses.

What we built

Four screens, one habit.

  1. Mentable home screen: the desk is closed, with the week, discipline score and clean streak

    Start from the desk

The home screen shows whether the desk is open or locked, the discipline score for the week and the clean streak.

  2. Mentable execution record: capture intent with asset, direction and planned reward to risk

    Record the intent

Before the trade, the trader captures the asset, the direction and the planned reward to risk, then records the outcome and the execution as separate steps.

  3. Mentable edge and leaks screen showing the standard held

See the edge and the leaks

A plain read on whether the standard held, with the confidence, the evidence and the number of samples behind it.

  4. Mentable analyst screen with prompts such as reviewing the last setup

    Ask the analyst

The analyst reads the trader’s logged trades and checks a setup against their rules, with a Core or Fast depth.

Also in the app

  • Desk lock
  • Intent record
  • Edge and leaks
  • Analyst
  • Outcome calendar
  • Discipline score
  • Dark and light themes

The result

Where it stands.

Mentable now has a working app it can put in front of traders. It is pre-revenue, so this case study makes no claims about sales or usage.

In the client’s words

“I had a clear idea for a product that helps traders examine the decision behind each trade, and nothing built yet.

Disojo turned it into a working app. The desk closes when the session ends, there is a record of each trade, a view of where a trader's edge and leaks are, and an analyst that answers from their own logged trades.

The team was so helpful during development, as I wanted very specific things. Tejjo kept in contact with me all the time, and I never had to worry about my requirements getting messed up.

Even with the product built, there is so much more we need to do, and so much business hassle we have to go through. But at least I don't have to worry about the actual product, which gives me a lot of peace of mind.”
